High tea is a time for indulging in food, drinks and wonderful conversation. Historically, tea time was a way for women to socialise and network, so it’s no surprise that a good chinwag is still a highlight when it comes to spilling the tea!

Here are a few topic ideas to get the conversation going and really get the best out of your experience.

Get to know each other

Okay, we know what you’re thinking: you’re having high tea with your squad BECAUSE you already know and love each other! We get it! But why not dig a little deeper – and maybe a little left of centre – to really get to know your pals with some out of the box questions!

Would you rather?

A classic game for a reason. ‘Would you rather’ can be as out there as you’d like.

Start with the easy questions:

Would you rather take a tropic vacation or pound the pavement of a major city?

Would you rather drive a super modern sports car or a classic vintage car?

Or move on to the whacky and wild for champagne and pastry-fuelled giggles:

Would you rather only be able to shout for the rest of your life, or only be able to whisper?

Would you rather eat cat food or dog food?

Your only limit is your imagination. Have each member of your gang come with four ‘Would You Rathers’ ready to go and we guarantee you’ll know everything you wanted to know about your pals (and probably a few things you didn’t!) by the time the last petit four has been gobbled up!

Go deep!

Funny convo starters are great, but how about taking a deep dive to really get to know each other.

Questions like:

What’s your dream career?,

If you could travel anywhere in the world for free, where would it be?

What advice would you give your 15-year-old self?

These sorts of questions really tell you a lot about a person. And, you never know, you might change your answer once you talk it out with your pals!

Impromptu book/movie club!

Read an amazing book recently, or discovered an obscure classic movie? Why not share it with your friends? Everyone can prepare a little one-minute synopsis of a book or film they think everyone should read in their lifetime to share over high tea.

Bring a little randomness

Bring a random fact to the table! Everyone loves a weird fact!

Did you know that there were once plans to farm hippopotami in Louisiana for bacon?

Did you know that Oxford University is older than The Aztecs?

Check out Podcasts like The Weirdest Thing I Learned This Week or Ridiculous History for wild but true facts, and be the interesting brainiac at the table.

What are your best conversation starters? Throw them in the mix too!
